Rural Institutions
COF have formed 30 organic producers groups (OPG) in each certified commodity specific areas. Various capacity building programs and activities have been carried out like packaging of organic produce, linkage with micro finance, training on packaging, labeling, storing specificities etc. COF envisages that with the increase of organic activities, The OPG’s will grow and Emerge as rural institutions engaging in multiple task. The OPG’s will further strengthen the effectiveness and efficiency of existing supply chain of UOCB.
Organic Basmati Export Program
Basmati rice (oryza sativa)
India’s delicious and luxurious Basmati rice is well known all over the world. The country exported 4.9 lac tones of basmati during 1997, which is expected to grow to 6.5 lac tones during this year. Most of this is exported to West Asia, Europe, and other countries. (Indian Express) Haryana accounts for 50 % of area under basmati rice in India. Followed by Uttaranchal & Uttar Pradesh that together counts for 25 %, Punjab for 18% and Rajasthan for another 3%. The rest is accounted for by Himachal Pradesh and J & K.
