The unique Bio Tourism initiative endeavours to leave visitors witha greater understanding of the village life and livelihood, nature , rural realities and need to protect what we have left of our wilderness and to encourage people to support Organic Projects. It caters to travellers with special interests who prefer to be part of the real environment of a place and want to learn more about the authentic natural, cultural and historical aspects of the locality they are visiting.

Bio-tourism is ecologically sustainable tourism with a primary focus on experiencing natural areas that fosters environmental and cultural understanding, appreciation and conservation. Bio-tourism worth lies in its potential to provide a win-win situation-a win for the environment, a win for the economy and a win for the local community and existing social and cultural structures.

Bio Tourism and Uttarakhand Organic Commodity Board

As a nodal agency of the government of Uttaranchal, UOCB strives to promote and facilitatebio-villages in Uttarakhand. In this endeavour, we work in close association with village communities , Self Help Groups and various voluntary organisations. Bio tourism aptly compliments the effort of the organisation as a subsidiary income generation activity for the villagers and hence this association.

UOCB envisage a great need and scope of leveraging and synergizing the concept of bio-village with emerging trend of bio-tourism for the benefit of all the stakeholders, especially the poor and marginal farmers. Through the project, UOCB will ensure that the visitors have an opportunity to personally and directly experience nature in ways that lead to greater understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of the nature by spending a minimum of two nights with local families in the bio-villages of Uttarakhand. The concept was implemented, marketed and promoted in such way that realistic expectations can be formed.

Our journey has just began and in this journey we actively seek your patronage.
